Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) seeks an Attorney III (NS) to join the DOJ/Attorney General’s Office in Raleigh to counsel on eminent domain matters for DOT projects.

Qualified candidates are licensed to practice in NC with at least three years of progressive legal experience and will handle investigations, discovery, negotiations, trials, and appeals, drafting instruments and advising on valuation of properties.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar.
• Three years of progressively responsible professional legal experience.
• Knowledge of eminent domain procedures and appellate practice.

Responsibilities

• Represents the NCDOT in eminent domain litigation at all levels of complexity.
• Conducts investigations, discovery, negotiations, vigorous motion practice, trials and appeals.
• Prepares deeds, contracts, releases and other written instruments; provides legal advice on acquisition and valuation of properties.
