Job summary

Vertical Laboratories is seeking an experienced EMI/EMC Test Engineer with hands-on MIL-STD-461 experience to join our environmental simulation laboratory in California. You will design and build test setups, perform MIL-STD-461 tests, support audits, and deliver clear reports.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of direct testing, strong documentation skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of hands-on EMI/EMC testing including MIL-STD-461.
• Working knowledge of MIL-STD-461 requirements and verification provisions.
• Ability to present to ISO/IEC 17025 assessors and customer auditors.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements for test methods, records, traceability, and calibration.
• Experience in shielded or anechoic chamber environment.
• Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
• Proficient with Windows Office; can chart and trend data.
• Strong root-cause and trend analysis skills.
• Ability to work independently delivering testing results.
• Experience with Tile software or equivalent.
• EMI/EMC certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIL-STD-461 testing across conducted emissions, conducted susceptibility, radiated emissions, and radiated susceptibility.
• Build and verify EMI test setups: antennas, LISNs, probes, amplifiers, and ground planes.
• Set up EMI tests and support troubleshooting during failures.
• Serve as EMI/EMC technical representative during ISO/IEC 17025 audits and customer assessments.
• Write and maintain EMI/EMC test procedures per ISO 17025.
• Repair test equipment (preamp, amplifier, power supplies).
• Maintain a test schedule to meet project goals.
• Research test standards and create test plans based on customer needs.
• Prepare electrical equipment for testing (DMM, HiPot, Power supplies, sensors...).
• Collaborate with Quality Management to implement company policies during testing.
• Stay current with best practices and investigate new testing methods.
