Job summary

DeepSight Inc. in Seattle is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead embedded hardware and firmware development for ultrasound systems. You will bring up, optimize, and integrate subsystems, and design robust test infrastructure for production in a regulated medical-device environment.

The role requires 7+ years in embedded design, strong C/C++, FPGA development, RTOS, and experience with FDA submissions, testing automation, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; Master's or Ph.D. highly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in embedded systems development, hardware and firmware design.
• Extensive experience with firmware development in bare-metal and RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr).
• Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and potentially other languages like Rust.
• Expertise in FPGA development using Verilog, VHDL, or Amaranth HDL.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB design using tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.
• Hands-on experience with mixed-signal, RF, or optoelectronic circuit design and prototyping.
• Ability to architect and implement complex embedded systems and test infrastructure.
• Experience developing test software and implementing test automation solutions.
• Familiarity with data acquisition systems and laboratory equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles for high-performance embedded systems.
• Experience in regulated industries with design controls, risk management, and regulatory submissions (FDA 510(k), CE).
• Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills at hardware and firmware levels.
• Experience with Linux environments for development.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in a dynamic startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement embedded hardware and firmware for ultrasound subsystems.
• Extend and maintain firmware codebase for quality and performance.
• Develop software tools for HIL and automated production testing.
• Create test specifications, define tolerances, and document verification/validation for regulatory submissions.
• Own FPGA RTL features (Verilog/VHDL/Amaranth) integration.
• Build end-to-end data acquisition pipelines for testing and manufacturing support.
• Optimize embedded subsystem performance and integrate HW/FW/SW into system architecture.
• Define requirements for capital test equipment to support testing.
• Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations for embedded issues.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers for manufacturability.
