Job summary

ITW in Lincoln, Nebraska seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, test and support embedded software for new and existing products, including hardware bring-up and low-level driver work. You will collaborate across teams, write robust C/C++ code with RTOS, and ensure reliability through testing.

This role involves quarterly travel to the Fairmont, MN facility and close hardware collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related discipline) required.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant embedded software development experience.
• Proficiency in embedded programming languages (C/C++), Git/Github, and RTOS (FreeRTOS, MQX).
• Strong understanding of hardware/software integration and system-level design.
• Ability to work independently across design, coding, testing, debugging, implementation and documentation phases.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, field teams, or customer applications is a plus.
• Experience with new board bring-up and debugging low-level hardware/software issues on prototype hardware.
• Ability to read schematics, datasheets and interface documentation.
• Experience with embedded debugging tools (JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, serial/protocol analyzers).
• Experience integrating Bluetooth/BLE, UART, SPI, I2C, USB or Ethernet.

Responsibilities

• Develop, code, test, and debug embedded software or enhancements for customers and internal products.
• Work from specifications with limited guidance to design and modify moderately complex software applications.
• Apply software design principles to create robust embedded solutions.
• Modify existing software to meet customer configurations.
• Validate software versions for proper hardware integration.
• Bring up embedded software on new hardware platforms and verify MCU, memory, clocks and interfaces.
• Develop, integrate and debug low-level drivers for UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, GPIO, etc.
• Provide technical input to project schedules and software planning; coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Document designs, changes and analyses thoroughly.
• Determine test requirements to validate reliability and performance; conduct or coordinate tests.
• Assist in the design of test equipment and bring-up/test plans for new hardware/firmware.
• Interpret test results and translate into engineering actions.
• Collaborate with staff to diagnose and resolve software issues.
• Drive design processes from concept to manufacturing release, including concept, design, verification, and production transition.
