Job summary

AV seeks a Senior Staff Embedded Software Engineer to lead development of software for unmanned and robotic systems. You will design, code, test and debug software for embedded devices used in aircraft and payloads, and support validation, production transition, and certification.

The role emphasizes complex problem solving, collaboration with multiple engineering teams, and leadership in rapid prototyping and testing within flight environments.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
• 12–15 years of relevant embedded software experience.
• Proficiency with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL, and OpenCL.
• Experience with IDEs such as Visual Studio and Eclipse.
• Experience with common protocols RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB.
• Willingness to travel for testing and long hours during deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or other robotic systems.
• Designs software for prototypes and products using AeroVironment tools; ensures configuration control.
• Leads in writing system requirements, test plans, and validation testing of software.
• Estimates development time and scopes work to fit timelines and budgets.
• Collaborates with other engineering disciplines and transitions software to production and certification.
• Develops proof-of-concept demonstrations and supports design reviews.
