Job summary

Redwire Space Missions LLC in Littleton, CO, seeks a Sr. Staff Embedded Software Engineer to own the design, development, integration, and testing of embedded software for spacecraft avionics and mission systems.

You will work across systems, electrical, and test teams to deliver reliable flight and ground software for mission success. The role requires 10+ years in embedded software, strong C/C++, RTOS experience, and familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, and other avionics standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 10+ years of embedded software development experience in aerospace/defense preferred.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems; Python or MATLAB for analysis/testing.
• Experience with RTOS such as VxWorks, RTEMS, FreeRTOS, or similar.
• Familiarity with spacecraft avionics interfaces (MIL-STD-1553, CAN, SpaceWire, RS-422, Ethernet).
• Experience with device drivers and low-level hardware/software integration.
• Version control (Git, SVN) and issue-tracking tools (JIRA, Confluence).
• Ability to work in agile teams with hardware/systems engineers.
• Must be able to obtain DOD security clearance.
• Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, and maintain embedded software for mission-critical spacecraft subsystems and testbeds.
• Translate requirements into software architectures, designs, and implementations.
• Implement command and data handling, fault detection, power control, and communications algorithms.
• Develop drivers, middleware, and real-time applications for avionics hardware.
• Perform unit, integration, and system-level testing, including HIL environments.
• Support verification, validation, and formal reviews/demonstrations.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define interfaces and integration.
• Assist anomaly investigations and corrective actions for software issues.
• Develop documentation including requirements, ICDs, and test reports.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace software quality standards and CM processes.
