Job summary

Wayve in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop embedded Linux software in C++ for edge devices, enabling autonomous vehicle sensing and control across a large fleet.

You will collaborate with Hardware, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure scalable, reliable software, with strong emphasis on debugging, testing, and best practices in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Proficiency developing high-performance embedded Linux systems software in C++.
• Experience with automotive sensors like camera, LiDAR, radar, or localization systems (IMU, GNSS).
• Familiarity with embedded Linux, build systems, and user space applications.
• Strong IPC middleware knowledge for high data throughput robotics (ROS or automotive middleware).
• Knowledge of distributed systems in cloud or robotics and how to scale them.
• Ability to debug performance issues, including stack traces, core dumps, and memory bottlenecks.
• Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, or real-world sensing applications.
• Embedded Linux, real-time OS such as QNX, and automotive SoCs experience.
• Networking fundamentals (UDP/TCP, Ethernet) and debugging network bottlenecks.
• 5+ years of experience; degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver high-quality embedded Linux software in C++, observable and debuggable on remote devices.
• Enable full sensor integration, data capture and streaming for autonomous vehicles.
• Deliver and maintain soft-real-time Linux applications on embedded devices, including ML inference at the edge.
• Create robust fault-tolerant software with diagnostics for fleet reliability.
• Design and use system monitoring tools to improve performance and diagnose issues.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Product, Project, and Engineering teams to build the right solution.
• Lead by example in testing, documentation, tooling, mentorship, and collaboration.
