Job summary

Garmin is seeking a Senior C/C++ Embedded Software Engineer in Cary, NC for the Marine embedded software team. You will develop weather awareness, integrated media experiences for boaters, and control multimedia devices on marine chartplotters and related hardware.

You will lead, design, and implement efficient C/C++ code across layers, collaborate with product managers and QA, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to roadmap planning in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience or combination thereof.
• Proven ability to design well-architected software systems that support new tech or improve existing functionality.
• Strong algorithmic problem-solving skills and research capability.
• Experience leading software projects or functioning as a lead engineer on complex systems.
• Ability to decompose requirements into well-defined tasks and manage scope, quality, and timelines.
• Proficiency in C and C++ on embedded platforms and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to software development in C/C++ on embedded marine platforms.
• Design efficient, maintainable, verifiable code across software layers.
• Collaborate with product managers, QA, and engineers across Garmin.
• Review architecture and modules for new tech and performance improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on complex problems.
• Participate in project planning and risk assessment.
