Job summary

Optimum is seeking a Software Development Engineer III to join our engineering team in Bethpage, NY. You will design, implement, and test embedded software for DOCSIS, PON, and Wi‑Fi broadband devices, collaborating across hardware, network, and software groups to ensure performance, reliability, and security.

Responsibilities include firmware development for microcontrollers, code reviews, and documentation.

Qualifications

10+ years of embedded software development experience, with broadband focus.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master’s a plus.
Embedded C/C++ proficiency; understanding of CPU architectures, memory management, device drivers.
Experience with DOCSIS, PON (GPON/EPON), and Wi‑Fi protocols.
Familiarity with Linux-based embedded systems and Linux system programming.
Scripting skills (Python, Bash) for automation and testing.
Familiarity with version control (Git) and the Yocto build system.
Experience with automated testing frameworks and TDD.
Ability to optimize for performance, memory, and power.
