Job summary

Wabtec seeks an experienced embedded software engineer in Buffalo Grove, IL, to drive design and development of real-time embedded systems across products and sensors. You will collaborate with a team under the Engineering Manager to meet customer and technical requirements.

The role requires a BS in computer or software engineering, 6+ years of relevant experience, and strong skills in embedded architectures, safety standards, and system integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer or software engineering (master’s preferred; ABET accredited).
• 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Basic project management skills and ability to lead engineering based small sized projects or parts of projects.
• Working knowledge of embedded software design of systems and components including engineering & manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures
• Deep knowledge in embedded architecture/systems, safety standards, performance optimization, & system integration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded software systems, including controllers and sensors, per customer and technical requirements.
• Make design decisions to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Contribute to innovation, patents, or process improvement and support embedded software designs from concept through production launch.
• Participate in DFMEA sessions and validation planning and follow APQP/NPD processes to ensure successful product launches.
• Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective actions for software and electrical issues.
• Evaluate specifications and performance needs to deliver cost-effective solutions and architect scalable, maintainable software for real-time embedded systems.
• Contribute to 8D teams and continuous improvement initiatives.
