Job summary

Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, is seeking a Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer to design and lead embedded software for connected vehicle solutions.

You will work inside trucks, drive architecture standards, and mentor teams while balancing hands-on coding with technical leadership. The role requires 8+ years in embedded C/C++, Embedded Linux, and telematics, plus strong collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years embedded software in C/C++, with Rust a plus.
• Experience with Embedded Linux platforms.
• Experience with TCP/IP and UDP networking.
• Strong software architecture and design pattern knowledge.
• Leadership experience while remaining hands-on in development.
• Experience in connected mobile assets, telematics, OTA updates, and remote fleet management.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded software for connected vehicle solutions including telematics, edge computing, remote diagnostics, OTA capabilities, vehicle network integration, and video recording/streaming.
• Serve as technical leader, provide direction to ensure scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
• Establish architecture standards and best practices for production-grade software, with mentorship.
• Drive Agile execution and delivery, improve backlog readiness and remove roadblocks.
• Hands-on validation inside trucks to ensure software performs in real-world conditions.
• Collaborate with embedded, cloud, and front-end engineers and product owner to deliver end-to-end solutions.
