Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Senior Platform Software Engineer to design and implement low-level Linux-based software for embedded systems across satellite, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular tech. You will work with hardware prototypes and lab equipment to build foundational platform software enabling product capabilities.

This is a senior individual contributor role, not a manager. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining Linux-based platform software, debugging across software/hardware

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, CS, EE, or a related field.
• 8+ years of embedded or platform software development experience.
• Strong C programming in Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience with ARM-based targets and hardware interfaces.
• Experience with multithreaded software design and debugging.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain low-level Linux-based platform software for embedded systems.
• Work with hardware prototypes, chip interfaces, and lab equipment for bring-up and validation.
• Develop robust C software for performance-sensitive embedded environments.
• Own complex platform components and interfaces used by other teams.
• Debug system-level issues spanning software, OS, drivers, and hardware.
• Support board bring-up, peripheral integration, and networking functionality.
• Contribute to kernel-adjacent software and boot flow as applicable.
• Develop and debug using Linux-based development environments including Ubuntu.
• Optimize performance, reliability, and maintainability of software.
• Create test strategies and participate in code/design reviews.
