Job summary

Verkada is hiring an embedded software engineer to build and maintain firmware for devices shipped to customers. You will own features end to end—from scoping and architecture through implementation, testing, and production launch—collaborating with product, hardware, and cloud teams to deliver robust connectivity and networking capabilities.

The role requires 5+ years in embedded engineering, proficiency in C/C++, C, and experience with FreeRTOS and Embedded Linux.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or closely related degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of work experience in an embedded engineering role.
• Proficient in C, C++
• Experience in owning SW features or projects end to end with production launch.
• Experience in SW development on HW products, e.g. SPI, I2C, UART, FreeRTOS, Embedded Linux.
• Experience reading schematics (basic EE skills).
• Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain embedded software and firmware for devices we ship to customers.
• Own features end to end, from scoping and architecture through implementation, testing, and production launch.
• Develop and debug software for Linux-based devices, including connectivity and networking features.
• Work with product management, hardware, and cloud teams to define and ship features that improve the customer experience.
• Share knowledge with teammates and mentor other engineers.
• There may also be opportunities to contribute to cloud services, depending on your interests.
