Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Firmware Engineer to own firmware features across the development cycle, working with systems, hardware, FPGA, and software teams. You will develop maintainable embedded software in modern C++ with robust interfaces and error handling.

Significant experience in embedded/firmware, Linux-based tooling, and CI/testing is required. The role involves debugging, testing, code reviews, and collaboration across globally distributed teams to advance MR platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional embedded or firmware software experience.
• Strong C++ programming skills with OO design, memory management and concurrency fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with hardware interaction, real-time systems, device interfaces, or resource-constrained embedded platforms.
• Experience with Linux-based development environments, Git, CI and automated tests.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned firmware features or components from requirements analysis through design, implementation, integration, verification, and defect resolution.
• Independently learn existing code, hardware interfaces, development tools, and system behavior; identify the right resources and ask focused questions.
• Develop maintainable embedded software in modern C++ using sound OO design and clear interfaces.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, FPGA, software, and architecture teams to clarify requirements and resolve cross-functional issues.
• Use debuggers, emulators, analyzers, logs and other diagnostics to isolate complex software/hardware interaction problems.
• Create unit and integration tests, contribute to automated testing, and support CI to improve quality and regression coverage.
• Participate in design and code reviews; provide constructive feedback and address review input promptly.
• Estimate, plan, and track work via user stories; communicate status, risks, and blockers early.
• Follow quality processes and produce clear technical documentation for traceability and maintenance.
• Work with globally distributed teams and contribute to design/architectural improvements.
