Job summary

Verkada is seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to lead brand-new camera categories and ensure reliability across a global fleet. You will collaborate with Hardware, Product, Backend, and Frontend teams to bring first-generation devices to life and continuously enhance the firmware stack.

You will influence HW selection, drive secure boot and kernel optimizations, and own end-to-end lifecycle from concept to production for a multi-million-device footprint.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in systems software for performance-constrained environments.
• 5+ years Linux-based platform experience.
• Experience leading large cross-functional initiatives from concept to production.
• Led initial board bring-up and hardware-software co-design for first-generation embedded devices.
• Hands-on with SPI, I2C, UART, USB and low-level protocols.
• Designing and debugging concurrent firmware services.
• Strong OS, computer architecture fundamentals; compute/memory/storage trade-offs.
• Proficient in C++ or Golang; Bash and Python for tooling.
• Excellent cross-team communication and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Unlocking New Markets: lead end-to-end lifecycle for new camera categories.
• Architectural Leadership: own firmware roadmap and large-scale changes.
• System-Wide Technical Depth: develop firmware, kernel optimizations, and edge services.
• Complex Problem Solving: address race conditions and hardware-software timing issues.
• Navigate Multi-Dimensional Trade-offs: balance security, performance, power, observability.
• Cross-Functional Optimization: collaborate with CV, Streaming, Storage teams for edge computing features.
• Operational Excellence at Scale: design deployment and monitoring for a globally online fleet.
