Job summary

Temposonics in Cary, NC is seeking an experienced embedded firmware engineer to own the firmware at the heart of our magnetostrictive sensors. You will design, implement, and verify the interrogation pulse, time‑of‑flight processing, and position output over industrial networks and analog interfaces.

The role requires expert C/C++ on 32‑bit MCUs, real‑time architecture, and hands‑on debugging with CAN, EtherCAT, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 8+ years embedded firmware development on targeted MCUs; real-time, component-level.
• Expert C, with working C++ on 32-bit MCUs; register-level understanding.
• Experience with CANbus and higher-layer protocols (CANopen, SAE J1939).
• Experience with Industrial Ethernet protocols (EtherCAT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP).
• Experience with analog outputs (0-10 V, 4-20 mA) and DAC/ADC; calibration.
• Ability to read schematics and work with hardware engineers.
• Strong communication; write specifications and document designs.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Partner with electrical engineering from concept through release; lead firmware/hardware bring-up.
• Troubleshoot embedded systems at firmware/hardware boundary; drive root-cause analysis.
• Own firmware verification and validation; create unit and hardware-in-the-loop tests.
• Support product qualification including EMC, thermal, shock, and vibration tests.
• Create documentation: software requirements, design specs, interface control documents, release notes.
