Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a skilled trades technician to inspect and repair road-related electrical and mechanical systems, including heavy equipment and pumps. The role requires diagnosing faults, using diagnostic tools, and maintaining safety standards on site.

The ideal candidate will have a Virginia electrician license, CDL and DOT medical card, and proven ability to read complex electrical reports. A valid driver's license and strong computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical and mechanical reports.
• Possession of Virginia DPOR issued Electrician license.
• Skill in basic computer operations.
• Skill in working with AC and DC electrical circuits, low and high voltage electrical circuits, electrical switchgear and heavy-duty electrical equipment.
• Skill in working with control circuits, controls for pumps, motors and various electrical systems.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose Repairs: Proficiently use electrical test equipment, prints, and diagnostic equipment to analyze mechanical equipment; isolate malfunctions and fabricate timely repairs.
• Job Safety: Ensure workplace safety and use proper PPE; follow site protection techniques.
• Time Management: Maximize performance and minimize disruption by following procedures and regulations.
