Posting Summary

Rutgers University seeks a Senior Electrician Maintenance Mechanic to work independently or lead a team in maintaining university facilities. Responsibilities include electrical and mechanical duties based on work orders, estimating work, procuring materials, guiding trainees, and performing general trade duties.

• Plan and coordinate electrical installations and repairs, including wiring, lighting, and alarm systems.
• Maintain generators and motors, install electrical conduits, and assist with switch gear and wiring for 480V systems.
• Ensure cleanliness of work areas, detect faulty equipment, report issues, and manage inventory and materials.
• Estimate work time, prepare work lists, and provide guidance to trainees.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance, prioritize tasks, and document work using current technology.

Qualifications

• High school/vocational education plus 4 years of electrical repair experience, or completion of approved training or apprenticeship plus 2 years of complex electrical maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license with 2 years driving experience; ability to complete Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency in complex electrical repairs, industrial power wiring, and switch gear for 480V systems.
• Good communication skills, ability to lift 50 pounds, and read technical manuals and blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License may be required.

Special Conditions

• Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
• Clean driving record required
