Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer, with at least 4 years in mining/heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience with HV/MV distribution, switchgear, transformers, and rotating machinery.
• In-depth knowledge of MHSA and electrical safety standards.
• Experience with PLC control systems and VSDs.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems in mining operations.

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the mining industry, is seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer to bolster their operations in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This is a critical on-site role, demanding a strong focus on the reliability and safety of electrical infrastructure within a demanding mining environment. You will be responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, and heavy machinery controls. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in mining electrical engineering, a thorough understanding of high-voltage equipment, and a commitment to safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems in mining operations, including power stations, substations, and distribution networks.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), and other relevant standards.
• Manage and maintain high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and motors.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on heavy mining equipment and processing plant machinery.
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.
• Supervise a team of electricians and technicians, providing technical guidance and training.
• Conduct electrical risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
• Manage electrical project work, including upgrades and new installations, within budget and schedule.
• Procure electrical equipment and spares, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of electrical safety and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer, with at least 4 years in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience with HV/MV distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, and rotating machinery.
• In-depth knowledge of mining electrical regulations and safety standards (MHSA).
• Experience with PLC control systems and variable speed drives (VSDs) is essential.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote site environment and adapt to challenging conditions.
• Valid driver's license.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
