Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a Senior Electrical Systems Technician to lead installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a 138kV substation and distribution system. The role requires at least 12 years of hands‑on experience, strong troubleshooting, blueprint literacy, and mentorship abilities to drive safety and reliability.

The position focuses on diagnostic expertise, adherence to NEC and OSHA standards, and supervising junior technicians.

Qualifications

  • Experience: minimum of twelve (12) years of experience operating and maintaining electrical distribution systems.
  • Education: Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills with hands‑on substations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain University owned 138kV substation and 15kV distribution system.
  • Coordinate annual maintenance, installation and repair of high/medium voltage equipment.
  • Write switching procedures for load transfers with minimal customer disruption.
  • Maintain and analyze preventative maintenance records; recommend repairs or upgrades.
  • Analyze annual thermographic surveys data and generate reports.
  • Review transformer oil analysis results and determine actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering firms on electrical upgrades.
  • Ensure contractor work complies with UT specifications and safety policies.
  • Respond to 24/7 electrical equipment emergencies and restore power.
  • Review electrical drawings and submittals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

UT Southwestern is actively seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Systems Technician to lead the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of our complex 138kv substation and electrical distribution system. We are looking for someone with a minimum of twelve (12) years of hands‑on work experience, strong troubleshooting/problem‑solving skills, strong blueprint literacy, mentorship abilities, and a proven track record of driving operational safety and infrastructure reliability.

As a Senior Electrical Systems Technician, you will apply advanced diagnostic expertise to solve critical system failures, ensure strict compliance with NEC and OSHA safety standards, and mentor junior technicians; this position works under minimal supervision to provide skilled work in evaluation and testing functions for electrical systems.

Work Location

Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.

Shift Requirement

7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; requires 24/7 on‑call/emergency availability.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Experience Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in operating and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
Preferred
  • Education Associate's Degree in a related field.
JOB DUTIES

  • Analyze electrical distribution equipment annual thermographic surveys data and generate report.
  • Review annual distribution transformers oil analysis test results and determine any action required.
  • Work with consulting engineering firms on all electrical upgrades.
  • Insure all contractor work complies with UT specifications and policies and is performed safely.
  • Respond to electrical equipment emergency call‑ins 24/7 and restore power in a timely manner.
  • Review electrical drawings and submittals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
