Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a Senior Electrical Systems Technician to lead installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a 138kV substation and distribution system. The role requires at least 12 years of hands‑on experience, strong troubleshooting, blueprint literacy, and mentorship abilities to drive safety and reliability.

The position focuses on diagnostic expertise, adherence to NEC and OSHA standards, and supervising junior technicians.

Qualifications

Experience: minimum of twelve (12) years of experience operating and maintaining electrical distribution systems.
Education: Associate's Degree preferred.
Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills with hands‑on substations experience.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain University owned 138kV substation and 15kV distribution system.
Coordinate annual maintenance, installation and repair of high/medium voltage equipment.
Write switching procedures for load transfers with minimal customer disruption.
Maintain and analyze preventative maintenance records; recommend repairs or upgrades.
Analyze annual thermographic surveys data and generate reports.
Review transformer oil analysis results and determine actions.
Collaborate with engineering firms on electrical upgrades.
Ensure contractor work complies with UT specifications and safety policies.
Respond to 24/7 electrical equipment emergencies and restore power.
Review electrical drawings and submittals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
