Job summary

Photon Queue in Albuquerque is seeking a Senior Electrical / Electro-Optic Engineer to own the electronic systems program for the New Mexico branch. You will design sensing, control, and feedback electronics from schematic through PCB spins, bring-up, and endurance testing on prototype hardware.

You will lead the broader electronics and controls roadmap as the team grows, collaborating with the Chicago office to transition validated designs into shipping products and supporting field deployments.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in Electrical, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field; 5+ years in electronics for precision instrumentation.
• Experience taking a custom PCB from schematic through layout, fabrication, bring-up, and debug.
• Hands-on with closed-loop control systems and stability analysis on real hardware.
• Experience with low-noise analog design and precision sensor readout.
• Proficiency in Python or C/C++ for instrument control and data acquisition.
• Comfort working in an optics lab and presenting results in design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Close-Loop Control & Automation: design and implement closed-loop feedback control for precision optical systems, integrate sensors, actuators, and custom electronics.
• Electronics Design & Bring-Up: own PCB design end-to-end, including schematic capture, layout, fabrication, assembly vendor mgmt., bring-up and debug.
• Prototype System Integration: build and maintain prototype optical systems; collect and analyze data under environmental cycling.
• Characterization, Documentation & Handoff: quantify system stability, produce schematics/layouts/BOMs/test plans, support production handoff and grant reporting.
