Job summary

Interplan LLC is a commercial architectural and engineering firm seeking an Electrical SME to elevate the MEP Department’s electrical deliverables through expert review, QC, redlining, and mentorship for internal design teams.

The Electrical SME acts as a technical backstop, providing redline reviews, code guidance, and design oversight to support engineers, designers, client managers, and Principals across nationwide projects.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of professional electrical engineering experience in commercial or commercial/industrial development.
• Demonstrated expertise in electrical design review and QC on building projects (restaurants, retail, institutional).
• Deep knowledge of NEC, NFPA, energy codes, and local amendments.
• Proficiency with CAD/BIM tools for electrical layouts, one-lines, and panels.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed QC reviews of electrical drawings (single-line diagrams, panel schedules, lighting layouts, power distribution) for compliance and constructability.
• Provide redline markups and technical commentary to ensure alignment with design intent and quality standards.
• Review electrical calculations including voltage drop, short circuit, fault current, load analysis, and coordination.
• Verify adherence to NEC, NFPA, energy codes, and local jurisdictional amendments.
• Review design of lighting, power distribution, motor control, emergency lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage systems as needed.
• Evaluate vendor submittals, BOMs, and equipment schedules for design intent.
• Mentor junior designers and engineers, coaching on code interpretation and best practices.
