Job summary

IPS, a Berkshire Hathaway company, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer for its Emeryville, CA office to lead electrical design for life sciences facilities and coordinate with clients and design professionals. You will perform detailed calculations, determine scope, budget, and staffing with project leadership, and ensure design quality across projects.

The role requires 8–10 years in engineering/design, strong AutoCAD/Revit, and deep knowledge of electrical codes and calculations

Qualifications

8–10 years of Engineering/design experience in the building design industry.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and AutoCAD/Revit.
Thorough knowledge of Electrical system design and applicable codes.
Expertise in performing electrical engineering calculations (SKM, EasyPower, AmpCALC).
Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems.
2–4 years of experience overseeing engineers and designers on project teams.

Responsibilities

Performs the role of Project Lead on projects across all phases of work.
Assesses project requirements, breaks into tasks, and coordinates with PM on scope, budget and staffing.
Write the scope of work for design based on client discussions.
Prepares engineering studies and schematic design for new systems.
Reviews and evaluates operation of existing systems.
Collaborates with code officials and other design professionals on code interpretations.
Assigns and reviews work of the project design team.
Checks progress and produces markups for drawings.
Communicates with clients and informs PM of scope changes or additional services.
Reviews contractor applications for payment.
Understands construction processes and coordinates document completion externally.
Performs calculations for sizing, short circuit, arc flash, and load studies.
Prepares or reviews construction budgets.
Promotes company design and production standards.
Mentors design staff and answers questions.
Performs additional tasks or special projects as assigned.
