Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Distribution System Design in Dallas, TX.

The role requires a PE license and extensive hands-on experience with overhead and underground distribution systems, system upgrades, and reliability improvements for IOUs, municipal providers, or utility consultants. The engineer will lead design efforts, develop design packages, perform calculations, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• PE license is required.
• Minimum 8 years in electric distribution engineering.
• Experience with IOUs, public utilities or cooperatives, and utility engineering consulting firms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4 kV to 35 kV).
• Develop design packages for new distribution lines and system expansions; hardening and resiliency upgrades; reconductor and voltage conversion projects; service extensions; and customer interconnections.
• Prepare construction drawings, material lists, staking sheets, and technical specifications.
• Perform system calculations: voltage drop, short‑circuit analysis, load analysis, and feeder balancing.
• Coordinate designs with transmission, substation, protection, and civil teams; apply standards and design criteria.
• Support integration of distribution automation and protective devices; lead design efforts and provide QA/QC reviews.
• Assist project managers with scope development, cost estimates, schedule planning, and risk identification.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
