Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in distribution system design. This senior role requires a PE license and deep experience with overhead and underground systems, reliability improvements, and customer‑driven projects.

You will lead design efforts, develop package engineering for expansions, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with utilities and municipalities. Occasional field work and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
• PE license required.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in electric distribution engineering.
• Experience with IOUs, public utilities or cooperatives.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of overhead and underground distribution systems (4 kV to 35 kV).
• Develop design packages for new distribution lines and system expansions.
• Prepare construction drawings, material lists, staking sheets, specs.
• Perform system calculations: voltage drop, short‑circuit, load analyses.
• Coordinate designs with transmission, substation, protection, and civil teams.
• Support integration of distribution automation and protective devices.
• Lead engineer for distribution design efforts; QA/QC reviews.
• Assist project managers with scope, cost estimates, schedules, risks.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
