Hanson Professional Services, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Distribution System Design with a PE license.

You will lead design efforts for overhead and underground distribution networks and coordinate with multiple teams to ensure code compliance and project success. The role requires strong technical depth, client‑facing communication, and hands‑on experience supporting T&D utilities or municipal providers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in electric distribution engineering.
• Experience with IOUs, public utilities or cooperatives, and utility engineering consulting firms.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4 kV to 35 kV).
• Develop design packages for new distribution lines, system expansions, hardening and resiliency upgrades, reconductor and voltage conversion projects, service extensions, and customer interconnections.
• Prepare construction drawings, material lists, staking sheets, and technical specifications.
• Perform voltage drop, short‑circuit, load analysis, and feeder balancing calculations.
• Coordinate designs with transmission, substation, protection, and civil teams.
• Support distribution automation, voltage regulation equipment, and protective devices integration.
• Serve as lead engineer or SME for distribution design and provide QA/QC reviews.
• Support project managers with scope, cost estimates, schedules, and risk identification.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
