Hanson Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Distribution System Design to join our Illinois-based team.

This senior role requires a PE license and hands-on experience with overhead and underground distribution, system upgrades, and customer-driven projects for utility clients. You will lead distribution design efforts, mentor junior staff, produce construction drawings, perform system analyses, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in electric distribution engineering.
• Experience with IOUs, public utilities or cooperatives.
• Strong leadership and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4 kV to 35 kV).
• Develop design packages for new distribution lines and system upgrades.
• Prepare construction drawings, material lists, staking sheets, and specs.
• Perform voltage drop, short-circuit, load, and feeder balance calculations.
• Coordinate designs with transmission, substation, protection, and civil teams.
• Support distribution automation, voltage regulation equipment, and protective devices.
• Lead distribution design efforts and provide QA/QC reviews.
• Assist project managers with scope, cost estimates, schedules, and risk.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
