Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Avionics Hardware Engineer to own end-to-end development of space-rated components. You will lead a cross-disciplinary team and collaborate with customers to define requirements, architecture, and verification for mission-critical flight hardware.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, 7+ years’ experience in ruggedized high-reliability hardware, and proven PCB design with Altium.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years in ruggedized, high-reliability hardware design.
  • End-to-end space-rated component development from requirements to production.
  • Experience in radiation-hardened design and EEE parts qualification.
  • In-depth PCB design with Altium, impedance control and EMI/EMC.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end product development for space-rated components.
  • Provide leadership within cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Define requirements and design architecture with stakeholders.
  • Perform SI/PI analyses and lead design trade studies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review designs and docs.
  • Support production, quality engineering, and defect disposition.

Job description

  • Own end-to-end product development for a space-rated component
  • Provide leadership as a member of a cross-disciplinary team
  • Participate in the entire design cycle of flight- and mission-critical avionics
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define requirements and design architecture
  • Incorporate printed circuit board interconnect systems and perform signal integrity and power integrity analyses
  • Lead design trade studies
  • Design avionics solutions for performance and high reliability in harsh environments
  • Create mechanical interface definitions, specifications, and control documents
  • Plan and conduct engineering tests and data reviews
  • Create and deliver presentations, proposals, and training material on technical subjects
  • Review assembly instructions and support hardware builds
  • Validate requirements through design, test, analysis, and inspection
  • Support Production and Quality Engineering, including dispositioning material defects
  • Manage product design configuration revisions through the product lifecycle
  • Mentor and train junior engineers
  • Review and approve designs and documentation created by other team members
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
  • 7 or more years of hands-on experience designing ruggedized electronic components or high-performance, high-reliability hardware
  • End-to-end product development experience for a space-rated component, from requirements definition through qualification and production release
  • Demonstrated experience designing hardware for radiation environments, including EEE parts selection and qualification for space applications
  • Experience integrating complex optoelectronic and electromechanical components into flight hardware assemblies
  • Strong digital design experience, including FPGAs, CMOS sensors, and DDR memory
  • Hands-on PCB design experience using Altium Designer, including multi-laminate stack-ups, impedance-controlled nets, FPGA integration, and EMI/EMC mitigation strategies for flight hardware
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Blue's Standard Background Check required
  • Preferred: Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Preferred: Experience leading complex spaceflight avionics programs, including hardware, firmware, and software integration
  • Preferred: Experience performing worst-case circuit analysis, circuit FEA, and FMEA/FMECA for high-reliability applications
  • Preferred: Background in fault detection, redundancy strategies, and system-level reliability modeling
  • Preferred: Proficiency with Python, C, C++, MATLAB, and Linux/Windows shell scripting
  • Preferred: Experience managing and mentoring engineering teams
  • Preferred: Ability to work independently and drive progress on rapid development programs with aggressive schedules
