Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an avionics hardware engineer to develop and own digital, analog, and mixed-signal avionics circuits across the full product lifecycle. You will support architecture trade studies, risk analyses, and safety initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams at multiple Blue Origin locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Broad understanding of electronics hardware development including complex circuit cards and aerospace products.
  • Experience with analog or mixed-signal circuit design including analysis, testing, and part selection.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and layout principles.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, op amps, LDOs, DDR, NAND/NOR memory, and MOSFETs.
  • Knowledge of communication methods including RS232, RS422, I2C, SPI, LVDS, Ethernet, CAN, PCIe.
  • Willingness to work hands-on independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and own avionics circuit designs across analog, digital, and mixed-signal domains.
  • Own avionics boards through the full lifecycle from concept through production release.
  • Support architecture studies, performance characterization, and controller roadmap direction.
  • Contribute to risk analyses, FMECA, WCCA, and design-for-test/manufacture/cost.
  • Participate in technology development, mission assurance, safety initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Communicate status, risks, and challenges to management.

Job description

  • Develop, lead, and own digital, analog, and mixed-signal avionics circuit designs
  • Own avionics boards throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and requirements through design, analysis, prototyping, schematic capture, layout, design review, testing, verification, and production release
  • Support avionics architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization, device selection, and controller roadmap direction
  • Support controller risk analyses, FMECA, WCCA, design for test/manufacture/cost, and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Participate in technology development, mission assurance, safety initiatives, and avionics process improvements
  • Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management
  • Contribute to Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related lunar infrastructure products
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Broad understanding of electronics hardware development, including complex circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or advanced commercial or aerospace electronic products
  • Experience with analog or mixed-signal circuit design, including analysis, simulation, testing, troubleshooting, and part selection
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, op amps, linear/LDO/DC/DC power supplies, DDR, NAND/NOR memory, and MOSFETs
  • Knowledge of communication methods including RS232, RS422, I2C, SPI, LVDS, Ethernet, CAN, or PCIe
  • Willingness to work hands-on independently and as part of a team through electronic assembly development and production
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a collaborative culture
  • Ability to travel 10% to other Blue Origin locations and large-scale company events
  • U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful admission as a refugee or asylee
  • Standard background check required
  • Desired: Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Desired: 7+ years of experience in vehicle avionics design, development, testing, and operation
  • Desired: Space vehicle avionics hardware development, integration, and testing experience
  • Desired: Knowledge of radiation effects on electronics for space applications
  • Desired: Intermediate or better knowledge of power system design and operation
  • Desired: Experience designing high-reliability safety-critical Class 2/3 board assemblies; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610 and DO-254
  • Desired: TCL, Python, Linux shell, Windows batch scripting, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, HSPICE, and HFSS or similar tools
