Job summary

SmithGroup, Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Detroit to lead electrical design for medium and large building projects. You will drive power distribution, lighting systems, and fire alarm design while managing multiple projects and mentoring junior staff.

The role requires a PE registration, a bachelor’s in Electrical or Architectural Engineering, and 15 years of experience in building design. CAD, Revit, SKM, Bluebeam and MS Office proficiency are expected.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 15 years of experience as an electrical engineer in building design and construction.
• Experience leading electrical teams and engineer of record for complex projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration required; LEED AP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently provide full range of electrical engineering services on projects and lead others.
• Lead analysis, design and documentation of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
• Manage timelines and workflows across multiple complex projects.
• Collaborate with Studio Leaders, Marketing and other disciplines on proposals and thought leadership.
• Present engineering solutions to clients and code officials; mentor junior staff.
