Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to join project teams creating world-class designs for process, industrial, airports, and governmental facilities. You will design from concept to completion, modify CAD drawings, and apply ETAP/SKM and lighting tools across diverse projects.

The role emphasizes collaboration with project managers, field measurements, and producing client-ready documentation. ABET degree and 3+ years’ experience are required, FE/EIT preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree with 3+ years electrical experience required (or FE + 3 years).
• Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in electrical design calculations and production platforms (Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP).
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a team environment.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical design from concept through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for diverse facilities.
• Design electrical components per project manager requirements.
• Apply standard engineering principles within the industry.
• Research and compile project-related data for managers.
• Update drawings using CAD software to confirm corrections.
• Prepare information for client presentations and contract administration.
• Conduct field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
