JLRD, Inc. is a Florida-based MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) and fire protection consulting engineering firm founded in 1991. Headquartered in West Palm Beach with offices in Merritt Island, Jacksonville, and Tampa, JLRD delivers all four engineering disciplines in-house across healthcare, education, government, federal, aviation, utilities and infrastructure, commercial and mixed-use, hospitality, residential, and mission-critical facilities.
We are privately owned and engineering-led. We compete on technical depth, not scale, and we build teams accordingly.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Electrical Engineer is the senior technical authority for JLRD's Electrical discipline. This role stamps designs, sets technical standards, leads complex pursuits, mentors the Electrical team of engineers and designers, and represents JLRD as a client-facing technical leader on the firm's most significant projects.
This is a technical leadership role, not a project management role. We are looking for a licensed Professional Engineer with both depth and breadth in electrical engineering for MEP consulting. JLRD works across many sectors and facility types, and this role requires someone who has seen how systems and codes translate across them. Narrow specialization in a single vertical is not what we need.
This position reports to the Electrical Department Lead.
Position is based in West Palm Beach, Florida or Merritt Island, Florida. On-site.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Technical Authority and Design Leadership
- Serve as Engineer of Record on assigned projects, stamp electrical designs, and own final technical review and approval
- Establish and maintain the Electrical discipline's technical standards, including calculation methods, drawing conventions, specification templates, and quality control checkpoints
- Lead technical scope development on complex pursuits, particularly those requiring multi-sector expertise or specialized systems

- Perform arc flash hazard analysis, short circuit evaluation, protective device coordination studies, and load flow analysis as required by project scope
- Coordinate with the Mechanical and Plumbing/Fire Protection Department Leads on cross-discipline system integration

Client-Facing Technical Leadership
- Represent JLRD as the electrical technical lead in client design reviews, coordination meetings, and value engineering discussions
- Contribute to significant pursuits as the technical face of the Electrical discipline
- Build and maintain relationships with client technical staff, architects, contractors, and specialty consultants
- Support business development through technical credibility and industry visibility
Discipline Operations
- Contribute to Electrical discipline workload planning, project assignment, and resource forecasting
