Job summary

PSEG Long Island is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a team planning the LIPA 4kV and 13kV distribution system on Long Island. You will analyze and integrate innovative technologies, drive planning studies, and contribute to system reliability and safety.

The role requires leadership of engineers, extensive knowledge of transmission/distribution planning, and familiarity with CYME. A strong background in engineering economics and a drive for continuous learning are essential

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum eight (8) years of engineering experience in Transmission and/or Distribution systems.
• At least five (5) years Distribution Planning experience.
• Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
• Familiarity with distribution system planning models (CYME) for load flow, voltage, short circuit and contingency analyses is preferred, as well as knowledge of engineering economics fundamentals necessary to evaluate alternative system proposals.
• Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office applications Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills.
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizing skills; adaptable and results-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical sub team of engineers to support various Distribution Planning initiatives including the Distributed Energy Resources Interconnection Studies.
• Review and recommend changes to the distribution system to optimize performance, maintain safety, increase reliability and minimize environmental impact.
• Support the 5 year Capital Budget Plan.
• Responsible for voltage and contingency studies (voltage, load flow, short circuit) involving LIPA distribution system.
• Identify and resolve weaknesses within the LIPA distribution system, by designing and issuing projects in order to meet distribution design criteria.
• Review the development of the 3-year summer and winter feeder and bank load forecast.
• Support Electric Service Operations as requested and resolving operating concerns during peak operating conditions.
• Preparing Purpose and Necessity statements and One-line diagrams for new distribution and substation projects.
• This position requires to lead and review Distributed Energy Resources studies for interconnection customers
• Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering technical excellence and continuous learning within the organization.
