Job summary

McKinstry in Spokane, WA is seeking a Senior Designer – Electrical to lead engineering of spaces and built environments for life sciences projects. You will drive design decisions, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, and advance high-performance building strategies.

This role emphasizes decarbonization, energy efficiency, and leadership of design teams within a design-build context, with opportunities to mentor staff and influence project outcomes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in mechanical design or engineering with a focus on high-performance buildings.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) required.
• P.E. registration required.
• AutoCAD and Revit proficiency required.
• Energy modeling results analysis proficiency required.
• Life-cycle cost analysis experience encouraged.
• Experience leading a design team preferred.
• Public speaking experience preferred.
• LEED AP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery for decarbonization and electrification of built environments.
• Manage design-build processes across sales, preconstruction, and construction support.
• Take ownership of design plans, equipment selection, and energy system designs.
• Coordinate with structural, architectural, civil, electrical, and energy teams.
• Mentor and supervise design and engineering staff; determine staffing needs.
• Engage with owners, developers, and general contractors early in projects.
