Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Tampa, FL to design electrical systems for critical infrastructure and support project teams across power, protection, and generation models. You will conduct studies, perform calculations, review conditions, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with sales to develop client proposals.

The role emphasizes leadership, design excellence, compliance with NEC/NFPA and other codes, and travel up to 10% for project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 7 years of relevant experience.
• Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required depending on project needs, workload, and business demands.

Responsibilities

• Develop basic to highly complex designs for electrical master plans, power systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability and renewable energy systems.
• Perform power system studies and electrical calculations, including lighting simulations and layouts, communications, fire alarm, security, and related facility system analyses.
• Conduct site reviews and technical studies, as needed, to confirm existing conditions and ensure designs align with site-specific requirements.
• Contribute to the firm’s Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) program by developing white papers, technical design documentation, and case studies.
• Prepare and submit technical papers and designs for publication in industry journals.
• Collaborate with sales staff to develop proposals in response to requests from clients.
• Meet with current and prospective clients to understand their present and future design needs and help develop technical solutions.
• Attend conferences and industry events to strengthen technical expertise and visibility of the firm’s services.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
• Review and supervise the project work of junior engineers.
• Perform other duties as required.
