Job summary

Young Management & Consulting seeks an experienced Distribution / Transmission Designer to support planning, design, and execution of electric utility infrastructure projects in Newark, NJ. This non-entry-level role requires strong technical expertise in underground and overhead systems, substation one-line development, and adherence to utility construction standards.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in transmission or distribution design,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience in electric utility transmission and/or distribution design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or Civil/Mechanical with strong electric utility background).
• Proficient in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Strong knowledge of utility construction standards and as-built documentation.
• Ability to interpret station one-lines, cable schedules, and protection/control diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed design packages for underground and overhead transmission and distribution systems.
• Prepare and interpret substation one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and related drawings.
• Perform constructability reviews to ensure safety, reliability, and operability.
• Apply utility standards, NESC requirements, local codes, and specs throughout designs.
• Produce CAD drawings and maintain version control per project standards.
• Support field verification, RFIs, submittals, and as-built closeout activities.
