Job summary

Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R) is seeking a Sr. Distribution System Operator to oversee daily electric distribution operations and lead field personnel during switching, repairs, and installations.

The role demands proficiency in power system operation and distribution equipment understanding. The position requires strong communication, leadership and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 3+ years in Electric Control Center/Electric Operations/Engineering.
• Progress to Qualified Distribution System Operator within 6 months.
• Experience supervising or coordinating field teams and emergency response.

Responsibilities

• Develop distribution switch orders and actions to ensure safe, reliable operation.
• Manage field forces and resources to progress emergency work.
• Supervise service operators, track time reporting and crew workload.
• Coordinate substation equipment operations with System Operator.
• Provide timely notifications for incidents, outages and maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations.
