Job summary

Consolidated Edison Company of New York is seeking a Sr. Distribution System Operator to oversee day-to-day operation of the electric distribution system on a rotating shift.

You will guide field personnel during switching, repairs, and installation of equipment, applying in-depth knowledge of distribution systems and related software. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relatable Electric Control Center or Electric Operations or Engineering experience
• Associate's Degree and 4 years of relatable Electric Control Center or Electric Operations or Engineering experience
• High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of relatable Electric Control Center or Electric Operations or Engineering experience
• Must have a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or project management experience
• Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, including the capacity to communicate effectively with union personnel, executives and other levels of management, the public, as well as with other departments
• Good organizational and leadership skills
• Must be flexible to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities and deadlines
• Must have a high regard for personal accountability
• Must demonstrate a high energy level and promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values and Vision
• Must have the willingness and ability to acquire and maintain additional licenses, training credentials and/or certifications as required for this position
• Must be available 24/7, and available to be on call and/or participate in off-hour emergency response activities as required
• Must progress to Qualified Distribution System Operator status within 6 months by gaining thorough working knowledge of the system and tools

Responsibilities

• Develops planned and emergency distribution switch orders to maintain safe, reliable operation.
• Responds to emergencies promptly and coordinates field crews to progress work.
• Supervises Service Operators, monitors performance, time reporting, and workloads.
• Coordinates substation equipment operation with System Operator, including switching.
• Prepares and distributes timely notifications for outages, safety incidents, and maintenance.
• Provides quality assurance by ensuring compliance with specs, procedures, and regs.
• Monitors NYISO DER market and manages distributed generation effects on operations.
• Contributes to process improvements and updates Operating Instructions.
• Delivers mapping updates with Mapping Department and follows up on feedback.
• Performs other related assignments as required.
