Job summary

AbbVie in Lake County, Illinois, seeks an experienced EHS professional to provide day-to-day support across operations. The role partners with leaders to identify risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote safe work practices to sustain reliable operations.

You will lead risk assessments, incident investigations, training, and contractor safety oversight, driving continuous improvement and measurable safety performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, science, or related field; 5+ years of experience.
• Experience in industrial/operational environments; safety practices.
• Knowledge of safe work practices: hot work, LOTO, heights, confined spaces.
• Experience with risk assessments, audits, investigations, training and corrective actions.
• Contractor and construction safety experience preferred.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary EHS partner for assigned operations-based functions.
• Provide routine field presence, coaching, and practical EHS guidance.
• Apply technical knowledge of hot work, LOTO, heights, confined spaces, surface penetration.
• Conduct risk assessments, JHAs, pre-task planning, MR reviews.
• Support compliance with local, state, federal EHS requirements and AbbVie standards.
• Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations; implement corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver EHS training, communications, and tools.
• Provide EHS support for contractors and construction activities.
• Maintain and communicate EHS metrics, use data to prioritize.
• Provide technical support for EHS standards and represent AbbVie with regulators.
