Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Specialist, EHS Staff in North Chicago, IL. This onsite, full-time role focuses on guiding employees and site functions on environmental, health, and safety matters, strengthening the site safety culture, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

You will implement EHS programs and support operations across manufacturing and R&D. The position offers exposure to a broad range of EHS disciplines, working with Global EHS and site leadership, with opportunities for professional growth

Qualifications

• 10+ years of EHS experience with regulatory interactions.
• Experience implementing EHS programs, policies, and training materials.
• Proven ability to lead investigations and drive corrective actions.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to influence cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments and identify workplace hazards with controls.
• Support high-risk work safety programs (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, etc.).
• Develop and implement EHS programs, policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near-misses, and high‑potential incidents; lead root-cause analysis.
• Deliver EHS training, promote safety culture, and engage employees.
• Audit and improve EHS performance; support regulatory inspections and compliance.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR).
• Maintain EHS documentation and reports; monitor leading/lagging indicators.
