Job summary

AbbVie in Lake County, Illinois, seeks an experienced EHS professional to provide day-to-day support across operations, maintenance, and facilities. You will partner with leaders to manage EHS risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote safe work practices in a fast-paced environment.

Primary responsibilities include field coaching, hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigations, with training and contractor oversight as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, science, or related field; 5+ years of relevant experience.
• EHS support experience in industrial, operational, lab, engineering or construction environments preferred.
• Knowledge of hot work, LOTO, working at heights, confined space entry, and surface penetration.
• Experience with risk assessments, inspections, audits, investigations, compliance, training, and corrective actions.
• Contractor and construction safety experience preferred.
• Ability to translate requirements into practical controls and build stakeholder relationships.
• EHS or engineering professional certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary EHS business partner for assigned Operations-based functions.
• Provide routine field presence, coaching, consultation, and practical EHS guidance to employees and leaders; identify hazards and implement controls.
• Apply technical knowledge of critical safe work practices including hot work, LOTO, heights, confined space entry, and surface penetration.
• Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and change reviews to identify hazards and controls.
• Support compliance with local, state, and federal EHS requirements and AbbVie standards via inspections and audits.
• Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations; determine root causes and preventive actions.
• Develop and deliver EHS training, communications, and tools.
• Provide EHS support for contractors and construction activities, balancing with other priorities.
• Maintain EHS metrics and communicate risks to management; drive risk-reduction actions.
• Support improvement initiatives and regulatory engagement when assigned.
