Job summary

Novo Nordisk in Petersburg, Virginia seeks an experienced EHS leader to manage environmental, health and safety programs and personnel. You will lead and optimize the site’s EHS processes to meet regulatory requirements while aligning with Novo Nordisk Way, ensuring cost-effective operations and strong stakeholder relationships.

The role requires deep knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, substantial manufacturing leadership experience, and the ability to mentor a multi-disciplinary

Qualifications

• Eight years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (pharma or complex chemicals preferred).
• Associate’s degree with ten years manufacturing experience (preferred).
• High School Diploma with twelve years manufacturing experience (preferred).
• Minimum five years of direct leadership experience.
• Knowledge of state, federal & local safety and environmental regulations.
• Strong verbal & written communication, able to convey to non-technical personnel.
• Able to read/interpret P&ID, CAD drawings; validation protocols preferred.
• Understanding of contracts and ability to create work plans & schedules.
• Professional certifications (PE, CHMM, CSP/ASP) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage ISO14001 Environmental Management system site-wide.
• Manage ISO18001 OHSA Management system site-wide.
• Develop site environmental and safety strategies, objectives and targets.
• Monitor and report site performance in environment and safety.
• Ensure compliance with government EHS approvals & permits.
• Lead multi-disciplined EHS team to drive accountability & results.
• Oversee EHS management system including life safety and process safety.
• Adhere to milestones, budget and schedules.
• Collaborate within Novo Nordisk to share best practices.
• Continuous process improvement using lean tools (CLEAN®).
• Monitor & report site performance in environment, health, safety & security.
• Oversee site emergency response and drills; manage waste programs (RCRA).
