OpenAI is seeking a Senior Manager, EHS - Robotics to provide hands-on safety leadership across multiple sites as our robotics footprint expands. The role requires independent operation in a fast-moving technical environment, with strong preventive planning and durable safety systems.

You will own site-level EHS strategy for robotics, partnering with cross-functional teams to embed safety into design, deployment, and operations, while maintaining regulatory readiness and proactive risk

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership in robotics, advanced manufacturing, or similarly complex environments.
• Strong knowledge across occupational safety and health disciplines such as machine safety, ergonomics, electrical safety, hazardous materials, and incident investigation.
• Experience scaling EHS programs across multiple sites, especially during rapid growth or 24/7 operations.
• Solid working knowledge of OSHA/Cal/OSHA requirements and translating regulations into practical programs.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and partner across functions to drive safety.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior EHS partner across robotics R&D operations, owning site-level safety strategy, priorities, and execution as the footprint scales.
• Anticipate EHS requirements for new operations, equipment, processes, and staffing ramps; translate into practical plans before work begins.
• Lead proactive risk identification and control across robotics activities, including machine safety and material handling.
• Build and maintain site EHS programs, risk assessments, procedures, training, and incident management systems.
• Partner with Robotics, Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Workplace, Construction, Security, People, Legal, and vendors to embed safety in design and operations.
• Provide visible field leadership across shifts and 24/7 operations and establish escalation mechanisms.
• Lead incident response and investigation for significant events; perform root-cause analysis and communicate lessons learned.
• Use data from incidents, near-misses, and inspections to drive preventive actions across sites.
