Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Senior Manager, EHS - Robotics to provide hands-on safety leadership across multiple sites as our robotics operations expand. You will own site-level EHS strategy and execute proactive programs, partnering with Robotics, Engineering, Operations, Facilities, and Legal to embed safety into design and deployment at scale.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership in robotics, manufacturing, or complex technical environments.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA/Cal/OSHA requirements and practical program development.
• Ability to influence senior leaders and partner across functions to embed safety into design and operations.
• Experience building scalable EHS systems, metrics, and incident response processes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior EHS partner across robotics R&D operations and site-level safety strategy.
• Anticipate EHS requirements for new operations, equipment, and 24/7 activities and translate into actionable plans before work starts.
• Lead proactive risk identification across robotics activities, including machine safety and hazardous materials.
• Develop site EHS programs, risk assessments, training, inspections, and corrective-action systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed safety into facility design, equipment deployment, and work planning.
• Provide visible field leadership and ensure robust 24/7 EHS coverage and escalation.
• Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and communications of lessons learned.
