Job summary

Arbor Energy is seeking a Senior EHS Engineer to build and lead our on-site safety program across El Segundo, San Bernardino test site, and the plant project. You will co-sign procedures, run readiness reviews, and ensure hazards are understood with robust controls before operations proceed.

You will report to the Head of Systems Engineering and spend significant time on site during first-time operations, construction, and commissioning, ensuring a safety-first culture throughout the project

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
• Experience building or substantially rebuilding a safety program and writing procedures.
• Familiarity with hazard analyses (e.g., LOPA, HAZOP, JHA).
• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and federal OSHA requirements and NFPA codes.
• Available on site for hazardous operations, including early mornings, extended days, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Build and own Arbor's EHS program: IIPP, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space, electrical safety, contractor control, incident investigation, and training.
• Formalize test-operations safety with the test team: procedures, exclusion zones, readiness reviews, post-test debriefs.
• Lead hazard analyses for new hardware/operations and manage change.
• Apply engineering judgment to oxygen, natural gas, high-pressure CO₂, and cryogenic systems; review designs early for safety Controls.
• Lead incident and near-miss investigations to close corrective actions.
• Own environmental permitting/compliance (air, hazardous materials, hazardous waste) interfacing with projects team and consultants.
• Serve as safety interface with test-site host, contractors, and regulators across design, construction, and commissioning.
