Job summary

Springer Nature US is seeking an Associate/Senior Editor for BMC Nephrology and BMC Endocrine Disorders, in a hybrid role based in New York, NY or London, UK. You will contribute to editorial handling and content development, building strong relationships with the External Editorial Board and internal publishing teams.

Qualifications

• Educated to PhD or MD level (or equivalent) in nephrology, endocrinology or a related discipline.
• Editorial experience in scientific publishing is required for consideration at the Senior Editor level.
• Ability to critically evaluate scientific content and editorial decisions based on rigor, novelty, relevance and impact.
• Strong written and verbal communication with a customer-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Develop a journal development strategy for BMC Nephrology and BMC Endocrine Disorders based on data-driven planning.
• Collaborate with Journals Group colleagues to support publishing strategies and initiatives.
• Identify, commission and develop reviews, collections and supplements with strong community partnerships.
• Oversee editorial handling of manuscripts ensuring rigorous, novel and impactful content.
• Make sound editorial decisions and guide Editorial Board Members while upholding standards.
• Investigate and resolve publishing and research integrity cases with resilience.
• Work with internal teams to resolve editorial issues and maintain author satisfaction.
• Contribute to editorial policy development using evidence-based thinking.
• Build relationships with Editorial Board Members, reviewers and authors with strong communication.
• Lead discussions with Senior Board Members on strategy, recruitment, policy updates and content development.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training and engagement of Editorial Board Members.
• Organize and lead Editorial Board meetings and strategic discussions with strong organizational skills.
• Ensure Board members understand and adhere to journal policies and best practices.
• Partner with marketing to increase journal visibility and community engagement.
• Develop website content, blogs and social media to showcase BMC values.
• Represent the journals at conferences and networking events to build relationships.
• Contribute to a supportive editorial culture and adapt during high workload periods.
