Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Developer (EDI) for a 100% remote U.S. based role.

The position focuses on owning EDI workflows, ensuring accurate transaction processing, and supporting business operations for federal/parity partners within the VA department. Candidates should have 8+ years of Edifecs experience in EDI and HIPAA-like environments, strong AWS skills, and excellent communication to engage stakeholders.

Qualifications

• A strong understanding of payer/provider workflows.
• Ability to interpret loops/segments/element-level errors.
• Experience with AWS cloud environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience interpreting Edifecs XEngine validation results.
• Ability to identify issues from Edifecs routes, profiles, or rulesets.
• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and JIRA.
• Strong documentation habits for transaction flow docs and SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Own functional EDI workflows, partner requirements and data validation rules.
• Ensure accurate transaction processing and support business operations.
• Interpret and troubleshoot transaction sets: 270/271, 276/277, 278, 820, 834, 835, 837, 999/277CA.
• Analyze SNIP compliance, companion guides, and partner-specific validation rules.
• Document mapping/logical requirements for new partners and integration changes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders for issue resolution and operational impact.
• Support audit/compliance reviews and maintain data quality guardrails.
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps, Cloud teams and business teams.
• Work with AS2, SFTP, and HTTPS flows in integrations.
• Validate data sent to/received from non-X.12 partners.
• Identify issues from middleware or APIs and reconcile data.
• Query SQL for transaction details and verify payloads.
• Review Edifecs logs and error codes at the functional level.
