Job summary

Amazon in San Diego is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer for EC2 VPC to lead kernel/embedded C efforts, optimize high‑performance packet processing, and contribute to SDN features across the public cloud.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive architecture and code reviews, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable networking infrastructure for EC2 VPC.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with C/C++
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• 1+ years experience in leading a team in terms of architecture and mentoring
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Experience developing in C or C++
• Linux kernel and embedded development experience
• TCP/IP knowledge and networking fundamentals

Responsibilities

• Being the lead engineer on a small team, mentoring junior engineers, ensuring the right development practices are followed.
• Hands-on leadership: drive architecture decisions, participate in designs, code reviews, and implementation.
• Maintain current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology and bring in new tech.
• Communicate requirements, designs, and product strategy to users and senior management
