Job summary

Capstone Copper’s Pinto Valley operation in Arizona is seeking a Sr. Drill & Blast Engineer to lead blasting design, safety, and optimization across drilling and production blasting activities. The role requires deep mining experience and advanced knowledge of blast design and planning.

The position is 50% office and 50% field, with a comprehensive total rewards package. This on-site role emphasizes leadership, collaboration with geotechnical and operations teams, and adherence to MSHA standards.

Qualifications

• 5 to 10 years of mining experience.
• Bachelor’s in Mine Engineering.
• Master’s in Mine Engineering preferred.
• Experience with MineStar or similar fleet management system.
• Experience with SAP or similar purchasing program.
• Experience with Vulcan, Minesight preferred.
• Experience with ViewShot or Delta E preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing).

Responsibilities

• Manage safety compliance with Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA guidelines and procedures.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on plans and designs.
• Supervise drilling platform design per safety and operation standards.
• Control blasting protocol, evacuation plans, schedules, and blasting meetings.
• Ensure contractor compliance in drilling and blasting matters.
• Develop drilling patterns according to technical definitions in each blasting unit.
• Aim for optimal fragmentation for processes (leach, concentrator, waste).
• Control and optimize drilling consumables usage.
• Lead teams overseeing blasting and production drilling operations.
• Budget resources for drilling and blasting services and contracts.
• QAQC of drilling and blasting.
• Participate in mine sequence reviews and planning.
